Cayo lies in the centre of Potes, a historic and gorgeous
mountain village in the heart of Liébana. Several excursions are
possible from here. You can accede to Potes form Cantabria driving
through the ravine of La Hermida; from León through the pass of
San Glorio or from Palencia through the pass of Piedrasluengas.
We can do many excursions if we take as start-point Potes. Excursions
in which we will admire beautiful sites, such as Tresviso, the viewpoint
of El Corzo, Cahecho, Áliva, etc. Liébana lies in the occidental
part of Cantabria facing the borders of Asturias, León and Palencia.
This region is situated in the deep valley of the river Deva and
its affluents and surrounded by huge mountains, always higher than
2000 m, such as the Cantabric mountain range including Picos de
Europa and Peña Sagra.

This
region is composed by four valleys: Valdebaró -municipality of Camaleño-;
the Cereceda valley; Vega de Liébana; Valdeprado, Cabezón de Liébana
and Cillorigo. Potes, capital of the region, lies in the confluence
of these four valleys.

The
National Park of Picos de Europa is part of the gorgeous orography.
The Park includes all the mountains, many of them higher than 2600
m; a surface of around 700 km2. The traditional life of Liébana
has been characterised throughout the years by its isolation and
self-sufficiency, which has permitted to conserve a very interesting
and diverse ethnography.

Every
village of Liébana is a life-museum of traditional culture, with
an important rural architecture: noble shields and the last hórreos
of Cantabria (granaries built on a four-leg base to keep the grain).
